[Report submitted by Steve Summerhayes]

Tim Summerhayes in his first ever triathlon finished the Lisbon Tri in a total time of 5hrs 36 mins finishing 388 out of 637 starters (530 finishes) This placing him 21st of 28 finishers in his age category.

This was also Tim’s first ever open water swim and first swim in a wet suit (clearly he prepared very thoroughly). His splits were: Swim 41:58 (1.9Km), Bike 2:38:01 (90Km),  Run 2:09:17 (21.1 Km), the transitions totalled approximately 9 mins. He also lost another 10 minutes looking for a toilet on the run, probably not helped by his poor knowledge of Portuguese!

While happy to have finished, and pleased with the swim and bike splits Tim was very disappointed with the run which was for him very slow; he had planned on a run of closer to 1:45 given his training times and his time last year in the Berlin Marathon. But the weather was cold and wet and he experienced some significant back problems that slowed the run, all the same a very good performance especially in your first ever tri.
